A self-taught cook, filmmaker, and creative director based in Kentucky.

Most days you can find me in the kitchen experimenting with new recipes or behind my camera capturing the stories food tells. What I’m most passionate about is creating dishes that are quick, comforting, and surprisingly healthy—and sharing them with you.

How Cooking Saved Me

Five years ago, I picked up a wooden spoon not because I wanted to become a chef, but because I needed something to hold onto.

I was battling depression, and cooking became my lifeline. There was something almost meditative about chopping vegetables, something hopeful about watching ingredients transform into something nourishing and beautiful.

What started as therapy became a passion. Each recipe I tested, each technique I learned, each meal I shared with family—it all pulled me further into the light. Cooking didn’t just feed my body; it fed my soul. And somewhere along the way, I realized I wasn’t just surviving anymore. I was thriving.

My family noticed the change. They tasted it in every dish I made. They saw it in the way I’d light up when sharing a new recipe I’d perfected. They’re the ones who encouraged me to start Recipes By Kip – to take what healed me and share it with others who might need it too.

I’m still figuring out my exact path, but here’s what I know for sure: life is too short for complicated recipes that require ingredients you can’t pronounce.

At Recipes By Kip, I focus on dishes that are:

Quick & Doable – Because you have a life outside the kitchen. Most of my recipes take 30 minutes or less, with ingredients you can actually find at your local grocery store.

Comforting – Food should make you feel good, period. Whether it’s a cozy weeknight dinner or a weekend treat, these recipes are all about that warm, satisfied feeling.

Surprisingly Healthy – Comfort food doesn’t have to be unhealthy. I’m all about sneaking in nutrition without sacrificing flavor, so you can feel good about what you’re eating.

Uniquely Mine – I love taking inspiration from recipes I discover and putting my own spin on them. Think of it as culinary remixing – keeping what works, improving what doesn’t, and adding my own creative twist.

When I’m not cooking, I’m usually creating something with my camera. As a filmmaker and creative director, storytelling is in my DNA – whether I’m shooting a film or plating a dish.

I’m endlessly curious, constantly reading, researching, and diving deep into whatever catches my interest (which is pretty much everything).

All my food photography on this site? That’s me too. I believe every dish has a story, and my camera helps me tell it.
